Perched along the Gold Coast shoreline, Kelly Slater and Kalani Miller’s family home is a reflection of the life they have intentionally built together - relaxed yet refined, deeply personal and grounded in comfort. Designed in collaboration with our Interior Design team, the residence balances elevated living with the realities of everyday family life, creating a sanctuary that feels calm, restorative and intrinsically connected to its coastal surroundings.

Creating A Home That Felt Calm and Grounded
“We didn’t want anything that felt overdesigned or too precious,” Kelly Slater explains. “The brief was really about creating a space that felt calm, grounded, and connected to the ocean. A true home instead of a house.”
For Kelly and Kalani, the vision was centered on how they wanted the home to feel. With busy schedules and a young family, creating a restorative environment became essential.
Working closely with Kelly and Kalani, Coco Republic’s Interior Designer Katja Cripps focused on translating that brief into a refined but relaxed coastal home.
"Kelly and Kalani were very clear that they wanted the home to feel relaxed, effortless and genuinely livable,” notes Katja. “My role was to interpret that in a sophisticated way through natural materials, soft layering and pieces that would bring warmth and longevity to the space."

Rather than over-interpreting the brief, the collaboration became about refinement - shaping how comfort, materiality and flow would come together in practice. Through this process, the home evolved into spaces that feel functional, grounded and deeply personal, while maintaining a sense of quiet sophistication.
The result is an interior defined by layered simplicity. Soft linens, warm timbers and organic materials create ease throughout, while carefully considered furnishings bring cohesion to each space.
“Coco Republic and their amazing team really understood that balance. The final result honestly felt even better than what we had pictured because they brought this level of refinement and cohesion that still feels effortless. It feels lived-in, but intentional.”

A Sophisticated Interpretation Of Coastal Living
At the centre of the residence sits the open-plan living space - designed for gathering, slowing down and spending time together as a family.
“We both gravitate toward the living space the most because it’s where everything naturally happens,” Kalani explains. “The space opens up to the kitchen, so it becomes one big area where we can all come together.”

Layered with tactile furnishings and softened through natural textures, the room feels instantly inviting. Personal details throughout the home ground the interiors in memory and meaning, from collected artwork to Kelly’s surfboard collection displayed throughout.
“The coastal influence is present throughout the home, but in a very understated way. Rather than leaning into anything thematic, the focus was on texture, light, organic materials and a palette that reflected the tones of the surrounding landscape.” explains Katja.
The result is a home that feels quietly sophisticated, deeply personal and designed to support the rhythms of everyday family life.
