Bold Design Meets Relaxed Luxury: Styling A Contemporary Family Home
Nestled in the suburbs of Sydney, The Farhat Residence is a striking study in contemporary design, brought to life by Coco Republic Senior Interior Designer Michelle Kafataris. From the open-plan living area to the expansive al fresco areas, Michelle’s vision was to create a home that celebrated the bold architectural lines of the property while maintaining a warm, inviting atmosphere for a family that loves to entertain.

The client’s brief was clear: they wanted spaces that reflected the home’s strong architectural identity, with natural stone, sculptural furniture and statement art woven throughout. The result is a home that seamlessly blends elevated design with liveable comfort – a place as beautiful as it is functional.
Key to the project’s success was the considered use of natural materials. The dining area centres around the live-edge Newport Dining Table, a sculptural anchor that contrasts beautifully with the soft curves of the Markson Dining Chair. In the kitchen, layers of texture take centre stage, from the striking marble splashback and benchtop to the panelled detailing on the island, complemented by dark cabinetry for a sense of grounded sophistication.

In the formal lounge, the Atelier Sofa, upholstered in a lush forest green velvet, sets a dramatic tone, its tailored, rounded silhouette offering both structure and comfort. Paired with the sculptural curves of the Fairfax Chair, the space feels intimate yet artful, designed for quiet moments or elegant entertaining. The Tribeca Side Table, with its sleek marble finish and architectural base, adds the perfect finishing touch.

The family room is relaxed yet luxurious, framed by the Omega Modular Sofa, a generous design in a soft neutral tone with clean channel tufting – the perfect spot for conversation and connection. A statement marble coffee table and curated decor pieces inject personality without overwhelming the space, staying true to the client’s desire for bold yet harmonious interiors.

The striking curved staircase and atrium garden further enhance the sense of drama and flow, helping natural light to filter through the open-plan home. Neutrals form the base palette, layered with subtle pops of colour, luxurious textures and gold lighting accents, such as the Patras Alabaster Pendant and the Noah Alabaster Floor Lamp.

The outdoor entertaining space extends the home’s social energy, offering a seamless transition from indoor dining to alfresco gatherings. Ideal for hosting family and friends or enjoying a solo morning coffee, our Catalina Outdoor Dining Chair features durable rope detailing and plush cushions for all-day comfort.

This Sydney home stands as a perfect balance of relaxed and refined living. Every detail, from the choice of stone to the placement of art, was selected to enhance both the beauty and the functionality of the space, creating a home that strikes just the right balance between design-led and welcoming.
